Gearbox Breather Clogging – Filter Barrels

June 25th, 2010

Breathers are an important function of any gearbox. They allow heat to escape and cooling air to enter the system, preventing unnecessary overheating issues. Gearboxes that do face overheating issues will cause other problems to occur, such as an increase in viscosity, a higher viscosity will cause accelerated wear by losing its ability to lubricate the internal gears, shafts and bearings.

Breathers face their own problems such as splash back of oil, outside air moisture and dirt ingress that can all lead to clogging of the filter. A clogged breather causes internal gearbox pressure to build up until it escapes through oil seals; this allows outside dust and contaminants to enter the system, again producing unnecessary wear.

Techenomics have designed a Filter Barrel that eliminates the current breather issues, simply by installing a Filter Barrel; it stops the clogging of the breather by enabling the breather to preform its job as it was designed to. The Filter Barrels stop oil splashback from travelling back up the system and reaching the breather, this helps the breather draw in and out air as required, controlling the temperature and allowing smooth airflow. The Filter Barrel not only helps the breather preform its duties, it stops the pressure build-up in the system, therefore stopping the seals from blowing out, it stops the temperature rise of the oil, allowing the oil to lubricate the internal components. Filter Barrels are easy to install and never require changing, that’s a one off cost to saving life on your gearboxes, breather replacements and lower oil consumption.

OnSpec Fuel Conditioning and Purging (update)

April 28th, 2010

Results on the Mitsubishi Canter have come back at an 8% reduction, our estimates where very close at 7%. Not only have we seen an improvement on fuel reduction but also on the Oil Analysis results, the last analysis results have shown lower soot, oxidation, Iron and PQ90 levels, this is impressive, not only will be lower costs on our fuel usage but also decrease maintenance costs.

If you had a Cat 789C rear dump, and you refuelled it with 3000Litres, at a cost of $1.25 per litre, that cost would be $3,750, on average the 789C uses 100 litres and hour, the tank of fuel would give you a total of 30 hour operating time.

Now if you where then to add Oscar Fuel Conditioner at a ratio of 2000/1, the OSCAR costs you say $30 litre, then your total costs would be $3,795, with an 8% fuel reduction, that would give you an operating time of 32.6 hours, this is equivalent to a fuel savings of $325.00 on a single tank of fuel.

Defiantly worth considering, especially given the fact that the OSCAR also lowers soot and other abrasive materials in your engine.

Another point would be lower emissions; this is also another benefit that you can’t place a value on.

Tractor Engine Saved

April 13th, 2010

I’m so happy, we saved a farmers tractor engine. Greg McNaught a local farmer rang Lisa in desperation with a sample of engine oil from a cat tractor. The oil pressure kept dropping and he was worried and concerned about blowing up an engine.

At Techenomics we are very focused on providing accurate and timely oil analysis reports, but really stoked when we can participate in the real action and achieve a “life saving” result.

The oil analysis of the engine oil showed that the oil was badly contaminated by dirt ingress, possibly from broken seals or contaminated oil. Whilst exciting it is so easy for us to help customers like Greg to find problems that can lead to major failure.

Whoopee.

OnSpec Fuel Conditioning and Purging (update)

March 17th, 2010

Today Darrin drove the truck out to Muswellbrook, that’s approximately 47klm, he noticed an increase in power immediately, Darrin words where “Its like it has two Engines -  it runs smoother then before, the gear changes are smoother, its quieter, over all just a far better vehicle to drive than before”  Now we are just sitting back waiting on the records of the fuel consumptions, we estimate over the next two weeks, we should see a reduction of at least 7%, definitely worth the exercise.

Today Darrin, Adrian and I purged the Mitsubishi Canter, while Darrin and I arranged the setup and purging of the truck, Adrian video recorded the whole event, this will later be edited and uploaded to  YouTube, the whole event was very successful with the Truck firstly blowing black smoke on startup and when it was changing up through the gears, after we purged the vehicle, the smoke went from Black to now white, there is only a small amount of smoke but this is common, we are now going to wait for the results over the next two weeks to see what performance it has had as well as fuel reductions.
